Bald, a consultant to the United Nations who has written on literature and censorship for a variety of publications, overviews the history of the censorship of religious and secular works for religious reasons. New entries in this revised edition include extensive coverage of the Harry Potter series, as well as entries on other frequently challenged books. Each entry presents a publishing history, a summary of contents, and the record of censorship in the US and abroad. Entries from the previous edition have been updated to include the most recent censorship attempts by school boards, governments, and other organizations. Also included are quotes on religious censorship by censored writers, biographical profiles of censored writers, and cross-references to works discussed in other volumes of the series. Readership for the series includes general readers and students in high school and up. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
